Starting Over Again

well... THIS comp tanked last night, lol... it had to be reformatted... so i lost alllllll my stuff all over again... [img]frown.gif[/img] all the fonts i downloaded... textures... brushes...frames.... programs... OMG, i don't even HAVE PSP anymore at the moment! no messenger, no nothing... i'm starting all over again from zero... [img]frown.gif[/img] it's worth it though if that's what was causing the problem... the drive was formatted for my other computer... he did a repair on it and tried to make it so i wouldn't lose my stuff... but last night it started giving me the "blue screen of death", and counting down to dump physical memory... there was some type of hardware conflict, or possibly some type of problem with the bios configuration... i think personally that maybe the bios needs updated... for some reason i'm thinkin that don did that on my other comp while he was here last summer... hmmm.... lol, i have TONS of windows updates to do... that's gonna be a pain in the ass, *L*.... ah well... at least it's the weekend... [img]smile.gif[/img] and it is working... so far... with no blue screen in sight... *crossing fingers*... let's hope it stays that way.... [img]confused.gif[/img]

You know...I just thought of something. You put new memory in it right? If it is the same one that was new in your old comp I am thinking the memory is bad because when Hubby and I were upgrading mine we actually had 2 bad sticks that crashed my comp every time we tried to boot it up. That and come to find out we couldn't add as much RAM as we originally thought we could so it would boot up then crash. I just didn't lose anything...THANK FUCKING GAWD!!!

I have 3 slots for memory BUT...it said upgradable to 2 banks of 512. Okay tried that...and CRASH. SO...we just added another 256 and it is fine. So the people who told us that is what was needed were WRONG. And I WAS skeptical because I kept telling Hubby when I bought the damn thing it was only upgradable to 512. *shrugs* SO...the moral of the story is that not everyone can be RIGHT about everything all the time...not even you Don. And it was an honest mistake. No harm done...I didn't lose anything but a couple hours of comp time. [img]wink.gif[/img]

lol... i have to admit that in this instance... he was right about the entire thing, from start to finish... *L*... except for the hard drive not working correctly again (so far... it may still be proven correct eventually... *muttering under breath*)...

he told me to replace the fan... i didn't... he told me it would fuck up my hard drive eventually... it did... he told me to have a professional work on it, so that if anything happened to the comp, they would be held liable... i didn't. *L*... (my brother could have just said "go fuck yourself, i didn't do it", instead of giving me a comp...) he told me he didn't think it would function properly if it wasn't completely reformatted instead of just trying to repair...

oh yeah... he also told me that putting one 512 stick in my comp wouldn't work... and it didn't. *L* (it was an old comp... had to have 2 sticks, and of equal amounts... or no go)

it's VERY irritating to have to go back later and say "yeah, i shoulda listened...you were right"... lol. but i can't help it, it's true... if i woulda just had someone pull the damn thing apart and replace the fan, the other stuff may have been alright... maybe. *L*

everything SEEMS to be ok for the moment... i've ran the dogshit outta this thing for hours now... downloading updates... and programs... and fonts... and frames... messenger... i've opened 500000 tabs at the same time... LOL... had 10 different programs running at once... so far, it's taking everything i can dish out... *crossing fingers*... i hope it stays that way... i can't test it further tonight, though, cuz it's after 4am, and i'm tired as fuck. lol....

One thing we added to mine was an extra fan because of the new video card. Those suckers get REALLY hot. We also invested in a video card with 256MB of onboard RAM. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

*creeping around some more*... so far so good... *L*... i keep waiting for that damn blue screen to pop up.... but there is no more flicker with my video... and no more interruption in my music when i try to open other windows and such... and no blue screen... and this thing is flyin like a champ, even faster than what it was before it was totally reformatted... i'm keeping my fingers crossed still though... just in case... [img]wink.gif[/img]

yes, i got some advice about getting an external drive so that if this one goes bad, i can just change it out... i'm gonna look into that... eventually... but i'm tapped out at the moment, no money to spare for an extra drive....

i can live with not being right all the time...in fact i prefer it...wouldnt care much for myself if i were always right...and quite frankly id be bored with life in general...wouldnt be much to learn or concepts to chase if i had the answers all the time..wouldnt you think? but i will stand behind my accuracy rating so far...98% is more than good enough... I think we will end up building me an entirely new tower before I get an external hard drive but a new tower and processor and such is probably not that far off since I can't really upgrade much more than I have. [img]eek.gif[/img]
